When someone is in custody, every hour counts. One lawyer who accompanies you personally, from the detention review hearing to release.
Release from prison is rarely just a date. The practical question is whether housing, contact address, work, health records, identity documents and authorisations are ready before the person leaves the prison. Social work and release assistance can help, but they do not replace legal review.
§ 150 StVG deals with release assistance in a practical way, including travel support to the future place of stay when necessary. Families should also know which records to collect before release so that conditional release, sentence end and the first steps outside are not slowed down by missing evidence.
§ 150 StVG is a practical support rule. If a prisoner cannot reasonably pay the travel costs to the future place of stay, a ticket can be arranged and, in some cases, travel provisions can be provided. It is not a full social benefit package.
That distinction matters. Housing, employment, insurance, medical care and family support must still be prepared, evidenced and coordinated with the relevant offices.
A useful release file includes identity documents, a contact address, authority for relatives, health records, detention confirmation, job confirmation and an appointment list. Not every document is legally required in every case, but each can close a practical gap.
The order matters. First clarify where the person will go. Then deal with appointments, mail, insurance, work and medical care. If conditional release or a condition is in play, the documents must also fit the court file.
The existing sentence-end guide deals with the first steps after release. This article starts earlier. It asks what should be collected before that day comes. Evidence for conditional release is another track, focused on prognosis and reintegration.
Release assistance and social work may support the transition. Legal questions about applications, complaints, conditions or deadlines should not be lost in the social work file.
Relatives can help by building a simple list: housing, mail, phone, identity papers, medical records, work, appointments, debts and pending procedures. Each item should name who is responsible and what proof exists.
Avoid promises that cannot later be kept. A concrete housing confirmation is stronger than a vague oral possibility. A job lead with no contact person is weak. The more precise the evidence, the easier release preparation becomes.
The overview orders typical documents before release.
| Issue | Evidence | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Housing Housing | Housing confirmation, contact address | Show a real return plan |
| Work Work | Job confirmation, appointment, contact person | Show structure and perspective |
| Health Health | Medical records, medication, appointment | Secure care after release |
| Authority Authority | Written authority and ID copy | Enable relatives to act |
The list does not replace individual review. The relevant evidence depends on the concrete open question.
Practical point: Release assistance under § 150 StVG is one part of preparation. Legal applications, deadlines and conditions must be checked separately.
No. § 150 StVG mainly concerns practical support such as travel. Housing, work and appointments must be prepared and evidenced separately.
As early as possible. Identity papers, authorities, medical records and housing proof often take time. Gaps are harder to close shortly before release.
No. Social work can support preparation, but legal questions about conditional release, complaints, conditions or deadlines need separate legal review.
